Samsung TV With White Spots On Screen? – Three Instant Fixes

For more than 15 years, Samsung televisions have dominated global smart TV sales. We offer a wide variety of high-quality smart TV series with excellent picture quality, elegant designs, and great performance. In the same way as any other TV, Samsung TV might develop faults, including white spots on its screen.

The purpose of this guide is to help you understand what is causing white spots on the screen of your Samsung TV. In light of that knowledge, I will now show you three proven methods to fix the white spots on your Samsung TV screen.

Without losing any more time, let’s find out what causes white spots on Samsung TVs.

Are there any specific causes why there are white spots on the screen of my Samsung TV?

When it comes to white spots on TV screens, there are mainly two reasons behind the phenomenon.

  • Lenses of LED diffusers have become dislodged.
  • There is a defect or dead pixel on the screen.

1.     Lenses of LED diffusers have become dislodged.

An LED diffuser lens is usually dislodged when a Samsung TV has white spots on the screen. TV screens are illuminated by LED bulbs covered by LED diffuser lenses, which diffuse the light uniformly.

A white light shines through the screen when the LED light bulbs fall off. White orbs appear on the screen as white spots when bright white light shines on the TV screen. Often, greater than a single diffuser lens is dislodged and dozens of white spots appear on the screen.

Here is a bit of extra explanation about why the Samsung TV screen has white spots.

TVs have a backlight made up of white LED light bulbs evenly spaced a few inches apart on strips. Diffuser lenses diffuse light evenly in all directions to create uniform bright light.

In order to keep these lenses attached to the backlight panel, an adhesive is used to hold them in place. When the adhesive dries out or disintegrates, one or more diffuser lenses can dislodge. They can also be dislodged by impact or moisture in the air.

TV screens are directly illuminated by white LED lights without diffusers. If the white spots on your Samsung TV screen are spherical and measure 0.5-2 inches in diameter, then this is quite likely the problem. You should also hear the lenses moving around inside the TV panel if you move the TV around.

2. White spots may also appear on Samsung TV screens caused by defective pixels.

There are hundreds of thousands of pixels on LCD TVs, and the number can exceed 2 million pixels on wider screens. Your Samsung smart TV, for example, has 1,920 X 1,200 (=2,304,000 pixels) if its screen size is 1,920 X 1,200.

A hot pixel (or bright dot defect) is what causes white spots on TV screens, although there are different types of defective pixels. If transistors on off pixels are stuck on, light can pass through, creating a bright white pixel.

The white spots may be caused by a faulty logic board or main board if they are very small (about the size of a period). White spots or dots on TV screens can also be caused by T-Con boards, although they are less commonly associated with them.

Among other display distortions, they are most commonly associated with horizontal or vertical lines. With that in mind, let’s have a glance at the ways to fix a Samsung TV with white spots on the screen.

What must be done to fix the white spots on the screen of my Samsung TV?

You may be experiencing white spots on the screen of your Samsung TV if you are experiencing the following reasons or situations. You may need to reattach dislodged LED diffuser lenses or replace the entire backlight array (LED strips). Besides fixing hot pixels, you can also fix stuck pixels.

Fix #1 – Reattach the LED diffuser lens that has been dislodged.

A dropped LED diffuser lens needs to be reattached to the LED light in order to fix a Samsung TV with white spots on the screen. The display panel can be accessed by opening the back of the TV.

In a few hours, you can fix this yourself if you are handy with a screwdriver and take precautions. The display play must be disassembled and opened to repair dislodged lenses, which is a delicate procedure.

However, the steps below should guide you in reattaching the lenses and fixing white spots on your Samsung TV. You can view a video demonstration at the end to fix white spots on your TV screen after following the instructions.

Step 1: Take the Samsung TV apart and disassemble it.

  • You will have to shut off the TV and disconnect it from the outlet initially.
  • The back cover can be removed by removing all screws on it.
  • Remove the attached plates by unscrewing them.
  • Make it easier to reach the diffuser by unplugging the speaker.
  • It is recommended to unclip any ribbon cable attached to the TV’s border.
  • Remove the edges by unscrewing them. The front border should be removed.
  • Be careful not to bend or place pressure on the screen while lifting it.
  • Suction cups should be used to lift the entire screen uniformly.
  • Delete the additional border pieces (four frames) that hold the other layer of the screen.
  • The second layer of screen should now be carefully removed.
  • There should now be some fallen diffusers and a backlight panel visible.

Step 2: Reattaching Dislodged Lenses on Samsung TV.

During this stage, you need a glue that remains clear when dry, and I highly recommend B7000 or B9000 glue.

  • When you place the diffuser over the LED light, you must make sure the legs are aligned with the holes.
  • Apply some glue gently to the lenses now. Make sure they are positioned correctly again.
  • Wait 30 minutes for the glue to dry properly (or wait for the glue’s recommended drying time).

NOTE: Other LED reflectors may fall off or become loose during the process. You should also glue them if that is the case.

  • The TV can then be reassembled after the waiting period has ended.

Step 3: Reassemble the Samsung TV after it has been disassembled.

During the process of reassembly, it is important to be just as careful as during the process of disassembly. You must be careful not to damage the screen when placing it, since it is very delicate.

Essentially, the entire reassembly process reverses the disassembly process.

The video below illustrates how to fix white spots on Samsung TV screens using all 3 steps. To assist you with fixing white spots on Samsung TV screens, you can also find more videos on YouTube.

Fix #2 – Replace the entire backlight array or LED strips on your Samsung TV.

When the LED array is old and at the end of its shelf lifespan, the original bond can disintegrate over time. If that happens, reattaching the dislodged diffuser lenses won’t fix the problem permanently (though it may work temporarily in some cases).

It is also possible to see brown spots under the lenses, which indicates that the LED array has reached the end of its useful life.

It may be necessary for you to replace the entire backlight array if this is the case, which is a more permanent solution. This shouldn’t be the case if you haven’t used your TV for a long time, and the first fix should be enough if you haven’t used it for a long time.

Furthermore, if you use the wrong type of glue, the plastic lens might burn, resulting in white spots on your Samsung TV.

It is simply a matter of ordering the backlight array and replacing it as a whole for your TV model online. Unless there are other issues, this should extend the TV’s life by a few years.

The cost should be around $50 based on the dimensions of the TV screen. After you’ve received the replacement, watch the video below for instructions on how to repair it.

Fix #3 – Fixing Samsung TVs with defective or hot pixels.

The hot pixel is a defective pixel that remains on constantly instead of cycling on and off. On recent Samsung Tizen OS smart TVs, this can result in the pixel appearing as a bright white dot.

A dead pixel looks like a small black dot on the screen when it’s actually stuck in the “off” position.

The following suggestions will help you fix hot pixels on your screen.

  • It is possible for hot pixels to disappear on their own with time if you wait it out first.
  • The process (if it works) may take some a while, but there is no precise timeframe. The stuck pixel can be removed with a damp cloth, rubber eraser, or rubber eraser with a soft point.
  • To avoid triggering more stuck pixels on your screen, do not apply too much pressure to the pixel, or anywhere else on the screen. Don’t forget to turn on the TV while you do this.

In the case of stuck or hot pixels, this might help. Although both of these methods are proven to work, there is no guarantee they will work if the damage is physical.
