The best method to learn how to spot fake AirPods Pro by the box and other methods.
The following 7 steps can help you spot fake AirPods Pro.
- Lightning port.
- Bottom side of AirPods.
- Speaker grill.
- Light indicator.
- Charging case.
- Serial number.
- Original packaging.
1. You can check your serial number by visiting Apple’s official website.
Verifying the serial number on Apple’s official website is the first and most reliable way to spot fake AirPods Pro. There is a serial number on the back surface of the charging case lid (where the left AirPod is inserted). On the original packaging, the serial number can also be found next to the barcode.
As soon as you have the code written down, enter it into the following website: https://checkcoverage.apple.com. As long as Apple can pull up the serial number of the AirPods, the AirPods are authentic. Service coverage, purchase date, and telephone support information can all be found here.
Apple, however, would not be able to retrieve the serial number if they didn’t manufacture your AirPods. You will receive an error message once the code has been verified.
You should keep in mind that if you are unable to spot fake AirPods, you may be tricked into buying one with a legit charging case or retail box. You will need to look for more clues in order to verify whether they are genuine or not in such a case.
2. Inconsistencies should be checked on the original packaging.
Apple products have a certain magic that makes people fall in love with them. Apple never disappoints with its products or packaging.
The two retail boxes (the authentic and the fake) will be compared and compared. Our findings are as follows:
Authentic boxes have two stickers on each side, while fake boxes only have one sticker that runs the length of the box. San Francisco font was used on the authentic box, while another font was used on the fake box. On the fake box, you can see that the Apple logo has a curvy edge. There are sharp edges around the Apple logo on the legitimate box.
On another aspect of the box cover, one can clearly see that the fonts are clearly different from one another. The fonts on the authentic box are ticker and have less space between them than on the fake box. In contrast, the fonts on the fake box have a thinner line width.
The real AirPods box has a much brighter status light and different fonts on the back than the fake AirPods box. The genuine AirPods have tight covers, while the fake ones have loose ones.
Take a look at the AirPods manual inside to see what it says. In the real AirPods, the text “Designed by Apple in California” is printed in gray while in the fake, it is printed in black.
Furthermore, the legitimate manual has 4 distinct languages (English, French, Spanish, and Japanese), while the fake one has 3 (English, French, and German).
There is no doubt that the icons that appear on the fake manual for AirPods are not the same as Apple’s real icons. It’s easy to tell the difference between them just by looking at them.
3. AirPods should be checked on the bottom side as well.
It will be our next step to examine what the real thing looks like. We’ll start by looking at the bottom of the AirPods, where the charging contacts are located. Authentic AirPods have oval-shaped bottom grills, while the fake ones are oval but larger and more round.
The grills on the fake AirPods are silver instead of dark gray like those on their authentic counterparts. Furthermore, the fake AirPods have larger charging contacts (the white stripe) than the real ones.
4. Have a look at the speaker grill of the AirPods.
We are moving on to the next step in our AirPods Pro review which will help you spot if they are real or fake. Let’s take an in-depth look at the speaker grills to see what they look like.
The grill on real AirPods clearly shows the shape of the speakers, while the grill on fake ones barely shows through.
Real AirPods have flush-mounted IR proximity sensors that are flush with their bodies. While the fake AirPods protrude, you can barely feel and spot the black dots.
The grills beside the IR proximity sensors do not separate from the body of the real AirPods (not shown in the image above). Fake ones have space between the rings, indicating poor production quality.
5. A comparison of AirPods charging cases.
By examining both real and fake charging cases, we continue our guide on how to spot fake AirPods Pro by box and various other methods.
A quick look at the charging cases will reveal that there aren’t a lot of differences when it comes to their design. It will fall apart when opened because the hinges on the fake charging case are loose.
Again, the fonts on the replica case are different from those on the original case. There’s an unusual extra space between “in” and “China” in Assembled in China, didn’t you notice?
Authentic AirPods charging cases have a small button on the back that is flush with the surface. As compared to its fake counterpart, the fake version has a protruding pairing button. If you don’t look at the button on the legitimate charging case, it can be difficult to locate.
6. Keep an eye on the AirPods’ light indicator.
You can also spot fake AirPods Pro by looking at the case in addition to the light indicator on the front and inside. Check to see if there are any misplacements or if the color has changed.
The unit that we had did not appear to have any irregularities as far as we could tell. The authentic AirPods have a smaller opening port for the light indicator.
7. Take a look at the Lightning Port on the AirPods.
As we move forward with this guide, we’ll take a look at the charging cases’ lightning ports.
In the fake AirPods charging case, there’s a small gap between the case and the lightning port, which isn’t there in the real AirPods charging case.
Also, the fake one has sharp edges, while the genuine one has rounded ones. As a result, the quality of manufacturing is poor once again. They have to keep the cost low, so that’s why they’re cheap.
Final thoughts
These fake AirPods are so convincing that even the most tech-savvy person would mistake them for the real thing. They look and feel exactly the same as the real thing, thanks to the manufacturers’ excellent craftsmanship.
They even have clones of Apple’s H1 chip, which makes their fake AirPods compatible with other iOS and Mac devices. With an H1 chip inside, these AirPods 2 were the perfect fakes of the real AirPods 2.
